Bhapa Dimer Dalna - Baked Egg Indian curry

Bhapa Dimer Dalna or baked egg curry is a traditional Bengali curry which is very easy to cook and require few ingredients. It is very nutritious and delicious too. Hence I thought of presenting the recipe here-

Preparation Time: - 15 min

Cooking Time: - 30 min

Servings: - 4 persons

Ingredients:-

For Baked/Steamed Egg/ Bhapa Dim:

  1. 4 Eggs
  2. 1 Large Onion, finely chopped
  3. 1 tbsp Ginger, finely chopped
  4. Handful Coriander leaves, finely chopped
  5. 1/3 cup Milk
  6. ½ tsp Baking Powder
  7. 1~2, finely chopped Green Chilies
  8. Red Chili Powder According to taste
  9. Salt According to Taste

For the Gravy:

  1. 3-4 tbsp Oil (I used Mustard oil as this recipe is traditional Bengali one, you can use any vegetable oil as you wish if you do not like the pungent smell of the mustard oil )
  2. 1 tbsp Ginger Garlic paste
  3. 4 medium size potato cut into small cubes
  4. 1 medium Onion, finely chopped
  5. 2 medium Tomato finely chopped
  6. ½ tsp Cumin Seeds
  7. 2 Bay leaves
  8. 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
  9. Red Chili Powder: 3 tbsp or according to Taste (I used Kashmiri Chili Powder)
  10. 2 slit Green Chilies
  11. Salt to Taste
  12. Sugar to balance the saltiness only/to taste
  13. 1 tsp Garam Masala powder

Preparation:-

For the Baked/Steamed Egg/Bhapa Dim:

  1. Beat the Eggs and mix onions, ginger paste and all other ingredients into a thick batter.
  2. Taste before you put the mixture inside the steamer to taste the salt level
  3. Pour the mix in a covered container and place it in a pressure cooker with little oil inside the pot to avid sticking of eggs in bottom.
  4. Cook for 5 minutes or till 1 whistle. If using Microwave put the container in microwave for 4~5 minutes
  5. Turn off the gas; open the lid of your steamer /Pressure cooker; take out the pot very carefully and keep it aside to let it cool.
  6. Cut the baked egg into small cubes with a knife and take it out of the container.

For the Gravy:

  1. Shallow fry the egg cubes and keep aside.
  2. Boil the potatoes and keep aside.
  3. Take a medium kadai / pan and heat the oil in high heat.
  4. When oil starts smoking turn the burner into medium heat.
  5. Then put the cumin seeds and bay leaves into it.
  6. When the spices crackle, add onions and fry till the onions become translucent.
  7. Put ginger garlic paste in it.
  8. Add tomato pieces and stir to mix.
  9. When the tomatoes become mushy and emanates water add the boiled potatoes.
  10. Continue stirring and add 1 cup water.
  11. Add the turmeric powder and red chili powder here. I use Kashmiri red chili powder as I am not much spice lover but you can use as much chili as your taste permit.
  12. Now you can add the silted green chilies.
  13. Add salt and the sugar to balance your taste-buds.
  14. Now put all those pre-made steamed egg cubes into the gravy and mix them well.
  15. Lower the flame and keep it for a couple of minutes.
  16. Sprinkle garam masala powder and switch off the flame.

Your Baked/ Steamed Egg Gravy or Bhapa Dimer Dalna is READY; garnish it with some coarsely chopped coriander leaves and a BIG smile.

Serve as a side dish with any Indian fried rice/Pulao/roti.

Jamun Raita - Indian Blackberry in whisked curd

Jamun is generally avoided as a fruit for its bitter tangy taste but it has excellent health benefits.
  • Jamuns are low on calories, which makes them the perfect healthy snack. They also aid digestion and promote natural bowel movement.
  • Jamun juice has bioactive phytochemicals that minimise the risk of liver disease and cancer.
  • They are also known to be effective in treatment of diabetes. Extracts of bark, leaves and seeds are used in combination with herbs to reduce levels of glycosuria and blood sugar.
  • Jamun juice acts as a natural astringent and is used as a mouthwash, as it eliminates bad breath.
  • The pulp of this fruit is used in the treatment of gingivitis (bleeding gums).
I personally like this fruit as it is but in my family none loves to eat this fruit. But I was determined to introduce this in our diet… so I prepared this raita where the taste of jamun is enhanced by the roasted cumin powder and pudina (which itself is another healthy addition).

Preparation Time: - 5 min

Cooking Time: - 5 min

Servings: - 2~3 persons

This is one of the fastest to prepare and use very few ingredients as follows:

Ingredients:-

  1. ½ cup deseeded finely chopped ripe black jamun
  2. 1 cup whisked curd (dahi) or yogurt. If you are calorie conscious then you should use low-fat curd, made from fat-free milk
  3. ½ tsp roasted Jeera/cumin powder
  4. 1 tbsp finely chopped Coriander leaves
  5. 1 tbsp chopped mint leaves
  6. Salt to taste. Black salt is preferred
  7. A sprig of coriander for garnishing

Preparation:-

  1. Whisk the curd thoroughly. If you are using thick curd/yogurt you can add a little bit of water.
  2. Chop the Jamuns and keep aside.
  3. Roast cumin seeds for a few seconds in a small frying pan over high heat.
  4. Combine the curd, chopped Jamuns, roasted cumin seeds, coriander leaves and mint leaves in a bowl and mix well but slowly.
  5. Garnish with a sprig of coriander leaves and few Mint leaves.
  6. Chill in refrigerator for ~30 min optionally if you want it cold.
Serve as a dessert after any Indian fried rice/Pulao or you can have it as a dip with fat-free Khakras.

Zomato Restaurant review - Moriz, Whitefield

Moriz Restaurant Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato

Moriz is a middle level restaurant which serves Arabian and Indian foods mainly. We went there on a Sunday afternoon with family to enjoy some good Arabian food. The parking is there on the road in front of the restaurant itself. Though I asked for police intervention they assured me that nothing will happen. But police came and threatened to tow away the cars parked on the Whitefield road. Luckily they allowed us to park in the opposite lane. However we found that the food was good - we ordered Afghani Bar be Que and it was delicious. But the AC was not running properly and though we were placed just under the AC we were sweating. We further ordered Butter Naan and Chicken Tikka Masala with a Veg dish - Paneer Malai Koft. These ones were not so good taste and already my kids started asking for Ice Cream. So we went ahead and ordered a mango icecream and Falooda. The Ice Cream was good but Falooda cannot be called a proper falooda as the layer of vermicelli was missing. Anyway we were comfortable with service provided but again no water was available in toilet and wash basin taps. We were provided with a bucket and mug. Hence it is sort of mixed feeling about this restaurant and a rating of 3 from my side. Lastly I need to mention that they accept Dineout Pay and provide 10% discount on reservation by Dineout. Some snaps follow:-
