This is one of the easiest recipes in my blog. When you are in need of a short easy to make but yummy recipe you can surely try this. I had to prepare something as a return for few of my neighbors and this one I choose as the easiest recipe with few ingredients.
Preparation Time: - 10 min
Cooking Time: - 30 min
Servings: - 7~8 persons (depends upon the consumption capacity of the individuals)
Ingredients:-
- 150 gm. Red Lentil ( Masoor dal)
- 1 large Onion or 2 small onion chopped
- 2 chopped green chili
- Red chili powder (optional – I did not use it but you can use as per your taste)
- 1 Handful chopped coriander leaves
- Salt to taste
- 10 tbsp Mustard Oil ( Since this is an authentic Bengali preparation I used mustard oil but you can in fact use your preferred vegetable oil )
Preparation:-
- Wash the Masoor dal well and soak in water for at least 2 hours, 3 hours is better.
- Chop the onion in small pieces and green chili too.
- Grind the soaked masoor dal in a mixer with salt to make a smooth paste.
- Mix with the lentil paste chopped onion, green chili, coriander leaves and red chili powder according to your taste.
- Take a non-stick deep frying pan / kadai and heat the oil.
- When the oil starts smoking, make small balls out of the mixture and add a few balls (bora) at a time to the smoking oil. The number of balls at a time is determined by the size of the pan.
- Fry the balls (bora) until golden brown.
Serve this as snacks with tomato ketchup. You can have it as
a starter with rice, Khichdi or puffed rice also. Sometimes in this rainy
season I have it with a hot cup of tea.
As always please feel free to comment, criticize and seek if
any help is required. I am all ears.
